Galleria Umberto
About This Spot
Stepping into Galleria Umberto is like slipping into a beloved neighborhood haven where the air hums with quiet energy and the inevitable buzz of eager anticipation. Located in the heart of Boston’s North End, this pizza spot offers a uniquely unpolished charm — a no-frills environment where locals and visitors alike gather for a shared purpose: savoring simple food made with heart and tradition.
The pace feels lively but unhurried, fueled by the rhythm of oven timers and the swift dance of staff behind the counter. While the line can often stretch long, there’s a comforting patience woven through the space, a tacit understanding that the wait is part of the ritual. It’s a place where people break from their daily rush to lean into something warm and familiar — a square of Sicilian pizza heavy with flavorful, bubbling cheese, or perhaps a golden, crisp arancini that melts into a perfect bite.
Though the atmosphere isn’t fancy, it’s rich with genuine moments: the chatter of friends sharing slices, the occasional burst of laughter from a table, and the hum of foot traffic that speaks to a place well-loved and often returning. There’s a sense of heritage here, a subtle reverence for recipes that have been passed down rather than reinvented, and that care is evident in every corner slice and calzone served.
For those who appreciate food that tells a story through its texture and warmth, Galleria Umberto offers more than just quick lunch fare — it’s a snapshot of Italian-American comfort in Boston’s historic streets. Whether you’re arriving early to beat the crowd or patiently waiting in line to take a well-earned slice to a nearby park bench, the experience always feels like a small, joyful discovery.

Cash Only! Delicious pizza by the slice. Definitely in the top 3 places in the area. Service was fast. The staff seemed on edge, but I’m not shocked because tour groups come in waves. It’s always crowded for good reasons. So expect a long line if you don’t show up early. Overall if your looking for delicious pizza and don’t mind waiting Lin line this is the place to be.

One of the best pizza place in town. The food in this place is so delicious. I ordered Pizza, Pizzette, Panzarotti, and Arancini. There are many options of beverages that you can drink while enjoying the food. At the same time, there are plenty tables in the resto. The queue to order the food and beverages is quite long, but it is worth it. There are restrooms. I really like the art on the wall and the pictures. Moreover, the representatives are friendly and kind. Would love to come back to this place.

It's what everyone else says. This place is awesome. If you have the patience, please wait for your Sicilian style slices to cool, because they come out piping hot and will burn the roof of your mouth. Well-priced. These owners take pride in the process and product. Next time I'm in the North End, will get a slice and maybe some arrancini depending on how I feel. Maybe better for takeout on a park bench 'cause that will give the slices some time to cool.

Umberto’s Pizza Look, there are a lot of amazing pizza places out there. But as an Italian-American who grew up on real homemade food (and yes… it’s gravy, not sauce ), this is the closest thing I’ve found to my Noni’s cooking. When we were kids, we’d dip bread right into the gravy and sprinkle cheese on top. That flavor is exactly what Umberto’s reminds me of. Honestly, this is the best pizza I’ve ever had, and I travel all over. Do yourself a favor and try it. It’ll completely change what you think “the best pizza” is.

This place has to be on your list to visit if ever in Little Italy in Boston Mass. Incredible pizza,so flavourful, the mozzarella tasted like there was Romano mixed in it and it was so delicious. The potato croquette (wow) and the arancini were delicious. No frills kind of place but I was thrilled eating their food.

One of those place that has been probably running for many many generations. Food keep coming out of the kitchen freshly made and hot. Super tasty. We’ve stepped in to get couple Arancini for lunch. Place was quite packed but people gets in and out quickly. Good selection of Italian rotisserie. Arancini are amazing ! Bring cash!!! Definitely a place to have a quick stop and dig in tasty food .

Gem...Wow This restaurant is one of the best pizza in Boston! It's on Hanover Street, Galleria Umbertos is a cash only. Eat in and take out lunch spot. They get long lines and are opened for lunch and close when the food has sold out for the day. No leftovers ever! The restaurant is owned by two brothers both natives of the North End. Hands down the best pizza in Boston! from the Pizza dough to the sauce you can taste the love and hard work put into this pizza l love it! They also sell pizza dough and pizza by the pan for take out...The interior is old school and outdated but it's authentic... The prices could not be more reasonable...If you like cheap, tasty, fresh authentic Italian food served in a warm environment in an old school, Mom and Pop restaurant with amazing prices, this place is for you! 100% recommend!
